GIRLS RULE! On May 20th, 104 Daraja girls will be running 28 laps to support their school.

Lap-A-Thon in Kenya: 28 Laps
The Lap-A-Thon is the Bay to Breakers sister race in Kenya hosted by Daraja Academy. The Daraja girls are empowered each year to raise money for their four-year scholarships through each lap that they run. The sheer pride the girls have during this exciting event has made it one of the most important and fun events on campus each year!

Top 5 Moments from last year’s Lap-A-Thon:
1) After student athlete Catherine finished her 28 laps, she decided to go back on the track to run with the girls having a more difficult time!
2) As the going got more difficult, runners held hands around the circuit, splitting up only to get their race cards punched before quickly regrouping.
3) The girls were strong from the start, with few showing fatigue until about halfway through the race. At around the same time some of the girls started kicking their sneakers off to the side of the track, more comfortable running barefoot than with ‘heavy’ shoes.
4) When the girls completed their 28th and final lap, there were cheers, hugs and congratulations all around.
5) When there was just one girl left on the course, eight students volunteered to run another lap each to count towards her total!
