Ten representatives from Daraja’s Form 2 class visit Naibor to observe and administer a health questionnaire as part of their on-going project-based learning assignment.

Daraja’s sophomore class teamed up with Cottage Hospital’s mobile clinic for a community health observation. The clinic pays a visit to Naibor once a month for vaccinations, check ups and other basic functions, and invited Daraja’s Form 2s to observe and interview when appropriate.

“After we collect the information today, we will compare and confirm it with what we have been learning in class,” said Esther. The 10 Form 2 representatives accompanied the mobile clinic workers into an empty classroom to observe vaccinations and basic check ups for village women who had arrived earlier in anticipation of free health services.

“Gastroenteritis, meaning stomach infections, is the most common illness we find in women when we travel to villages in this area,” Nurse Susan told the girls. The girls verbally administered their questionnaire, asking questions to the nurse, doctor and local women who felt comfortable enough to be interviewed. As part of their Young Fighters for Survival project, the Form 2s will use the information to create an educational product for local village women.
