Two Events, One Family
Get ready to have an incredible time! For the first time ever, Daraja advocates in the Bay Area got together to participate in Bay to Breakers, an annual footrace that takes place the third Sunday of each May in San Francisco. The objective was to raise money, build awareness, and have fun. On the same day, the Daraja girls participated in a similar race on campus called the Lap-a-thon. The students ran the same distance and sponsors from around the world donated toward each lap.
Last year, the Daraja girls and their supporters raised over $50,000 and received coverage from a number of media outlets. The Bay to Breakers female record holder Lineth Chepkurui agreed to represent Daraja during the Daraja race, and won for the third year in a row in the May 2011 race.
2011 was the first year we did this and, due to the huge success of the event, we will be doing it again! If you would like to be involved, check back on this page or email racefor77@daraja-academy.org.
