Daraja Advocates
Daraja Advocates began when groups of adults and students approached the organization with the hope of joining the cause. They were inspired by the Daraja girls and wanted to take an active role in their lives. In the short time the school has been operating, advocates have become a crucial part of the Daraja family.
The most important ingredient needed to become an advocate in your area is the desire to make a positive difference in the lives of the Daraja Academy students. The main roles of Daraja advocates are to raise awareness and fund-raise. A few things you can do as an advocate are listed below but the possibilities are endless.
Start a Daraja Club
Daraja clubs have shined as students from around the world have learned about the struggle for girls education and worked actively to fundraise for this academy. Clubs have raised money by throwing a benefit, selling products or partnering with local businesses.
“Dimes for Daraja”:
Spare change can make a huge difference and this is a fantastic way for our younger advocates to get involved. After learning about how students live in a different country, kids can begin a coin drive where they get their parents, neighbors and friends involved.
Throw an event :
The most effective events have been those that fund a specific need. Past events include funding for a student’s school fees for a year or funding for a sustainable source of water for campus. Deciding what to fundraise for, and scheduling a possible speaking appearance from the founders, can be arranged at events@daraja-academy.org.
Create a Giving Circle :
A giving circle is a group of people working collectively to give donations to an organization. It is one of the most rewarding ways to bond with your family, friends, or coworkers while changing the direction of a young girl’s life. Current giving circles (link to Molly Veneble’s testimonial) have worked together to fund a student sponsorship for one year.
Fundraise online :
If you want to run a marathon, commemorate the memory of a loved one, celebrate a birthday or any other special event in honor of the Daraja girls, you can create an online fundraising page through firstgiving.com under “Carr Educational Foundation”. Funds raised go directly to the school.
Send a “Daraja” card :
You can donate on behalf of specific person via the website, then contact us to let us know. Once we verify, we will send an e-postcard to the recipient recognizing the donation in their honor. It’s a special and different way to say happy birthday, happy mother’s day, happy anniversary or thank you.
Donate Your Expertise :
The staff in California is always looking for people willing to share their professional expertise. Individuals or businesses with the time and skills to help areencouraged to contact us.
If you would like to be a Daraja Advocate, the time to start is now! We highly recommend that you submit an application (link to downloadable pdf of “Daraja Advocates Application”) to advocate@daraja-academy.org. This way, a Daraja representative can provide information on the specific needs considered most urgent for the organization, aid you in your efforts, and show you exactly the effect your work will make to the students.
For fundraising material, you can check out our Media Room (link to “Media Room”) .

The Daraja Giving Circle Testimonial:
We are three sisters who wanted to organize a group of women that would find different projects that we could donate our time and money to. Our intention was to spend 6 months with a charity in the United States then 6 months with something internationally.
We were told about Jenni and Jason and their dream for the Daraja Academy through a mutual friend. The moment we met with Jenni and Jason we knew we had found our cause. We felt we were getting our local and international group all in one. They are from our area in California and their school is in Kenya; the perfect match!
We started out as The Giving Circle and have since changed our name to The Daraja Giving Circle. We have held charity events, luncheons and teas helping raise money and spreading the word about the amazing work the academy is doing to bring education to girls that would never have the chance to advance in the world. The fact that so many different tribes are under the same roof living as sisters while their tribes our fighting outside the walls of Daraja. The fact that they are learning to live together, solve problems together and love each other as family will alter our world. It is this kind of caring and supportive school that will stop war, hunger, overpopulation, lack of education and the list goes on and on.
These amazing young women will grow up knowing how important an education is and will pass that onto their children. The education they are receiving will help them go out into world and not only be able to cope but cure so many of the worlds problems.
Our loyalty runs very deep with Daraja. This is a very special and magical place that transforms not only the students but anyone involved with this program. We urge you to invest in this amazing school as you will not only be helping in a life changing program but you will find more joy then you know when you start getting to know the girls, Jenni, Jason and the staff of Daraja.
